Survivor Support - Who We Are

The Survivor Support Programme began in 1979 as a pioneer service in Canada for those experiencing loss due to suicide. It is a programme that is organized under the auspices of the Distress Centre. Trained and supervised volunteers, survivors and other lay counselors, have combined their skills and insights in an effort to create a safe, caring environment within which to explore the aftermath of suicide, and provide support. The carefully selected volunteers are prepared to deal in a sensitive and realistic way with the emotional issues and problems left behind by suicide. They are aware of the full range of normal and complicated grief reactions that survivors may experience.
